First glimpse!

Here’s a pretty fresh article about our new convention center! (It’s too long to post in its entirety, so I pasted the link at the bottom.)

Also, we got a HUGE scale model of the convention center and it’s awesome! It has lights in it so you can actually see the inside a bit (there are little mini people in there!) and it has trees! Yay!

The model is down at City Hall for the day because of all the fanfare, so head on over there if you’d like to check it out. That or next time you stop by our office, it’s twin will have been delivered to our boardroom for your viewing pleasure!

Irving again discusses entertainment complex next to convention center

Irving is ready to make another run at creating a massive entertainment complex adjacent to its planned Las Colinas convention center. And famed developer Billy Bob Barnett is set to reprise his role as entertainment expert this second time around.

Plans for the center unveiled Wednesday emphasize live musical performances big and small. Developers envision a 600,000-square-foot, pedestrian-friendly complex centered on a five-level concert hall with a maximum capacity for 6,000 people.

A bevy of restaurants, smaller live music venues, bars, high-end retail shops, a polo club and a recording studio are also planned for the project. The complex is scheduled to open in early 2011 and is expected to cost more than $200 million.

"What we're trying to do is be the next level where music is going," project manager Bill Beuck told a standing-room-only crowd at the Irving City Council's work session Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, city officials and residents got their first glimpse of a model for the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas, which will anchor the convention and entertainment center site. That 275,000-square-foot building is set to open in November 2010.

The projects will be built on land surrounded by Northwest Highway, State Highway 114 and West Las Colinas Boulevard.

view from my office. sweet.

This is the view from my office most days... unless it rains. I love the rainy days – you feel like you’re actually in the cloud! Yay 15th floor!

This is the Williams Square Building (and their beautiful parking lot, site of lunchtime aerobics classes when the weather’s nice) home to the Mustangs of Las Colinas. The mustangs are awesome – 150% life size. They're the focal point (and indeed, the point) of the central plaza of the three buildings. You can almost feel them breathing. Awesome.

That’s downtown Dallas you can see beyond the right side of Lake Carolyn, and on the far, far right hand side you can just make out the hole in the white roof of Texas Stadium.
